Our Best Start Family Hub phase 1 launching in September

24 July 2025

National government’s move towards central family hubs has been highlighted recently with the release of its Best Start in Life strategy. This asks local authorities to create Best Start Family Hubs.

Best Start Family Hubs are designed to include a range of services, most of which already exist, to bring them together under the Family Hub banner. These services include:
• Start for Life services for 0-5s
• health and public health services
• debt and welfare advice
• SEND support services
• youth services

Work is already underway at the City of London Corporation to create a Best Start Family Hub for our residents, which forms part of our Families in the City programme.

The development of our Best Start Family Hub will take time and will be done in phases to ensure that we are delivering the best possible offer for families in the City of London.

Phase one of our Best Start Family Hub is due to launch on 1 September.
This will include:
• a virtual information and advice offer here on the Family Information Service website. There will be a dedicated family hub space bringing together services for 0-25s - including for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) – and their families
• services will continue to be delivered in-person at various sites across the City of London including at our libraires and community centres
• support to help families navigate the family hub offer
