Mary is 76 and lives alone in the City. She suffered a stroke five years ago and struggles to get about on her own outside of her flat as she often falls down. Recently she has been feeling quite lonely as many of her friends aren’t around anymore. Mary wanted to feel more connected with her community again, and to feel more independent, so she reached out to Ruby at City Connections after seeing a poster at her local community centre about their service. Ruby helped Mary to see healthcare professionals who have equipped Mary with a rollator to help her walk independently, as well as get some training to prevent her from falling again. Ruby also connected Mary to a couple of local weekly groups where she has met new likeminded friends. She says, “I’m feeling much better now that I know more people in the area again, it is such a supportive community!”
