City of London Cultural Strategy, Go & See Event: Guildhall Art Gallery
As part of the ongoing programme of consultation for the City of London Cultural Strategy, we are hosting a series of ‘Go and See’ events across the Square Mile. These sessions offer attendees the opportunity to peek behind the scenes of some of our most fascinating buildings (for free) whilst simultaneously receiving an update on the City of London Cultural Strategy with the opportunity to input your ideas.
Join us for a 2 hour, in-person tour of Guildhall Art Gallery, home to the City of London Corporation's art collection.
Thursday, September 11 · 4 - 6pm Guildhall Art Gallery, Guildhall Yard London EC2V 5AE
This guided tour will take you through the gallery's wide-ranging collection which dates from 1670 to the present day as well as the temporary exhibition 'Evelyn De Morgan: The Modern Painter in Victorian London'. The exhibition invites visitors to immerse themselves in De Morgan’s artistic process, explore her illustrious career, and uncover the cultural influences that shaped her work. You will also get a chance to explore London's Roman Amphitheatre which was rediscovered by archaeologists in 1988 after being lost for centuries. Visitors can now step into these roman ruins and dive into the ancient history of Roman London.
The tour will be followed by an informal presentation and discussion session about the City of London Cultural Strategy with Things Made Public and the City of London Culture Team. The City of London Corporation is developing a new Cultural Strategy for the Square Mile. The Strategy will set out a bold and practical vision for culture in the Square Mile over the next five years. It will highlight the role of arts, heritage, and creativity in shaping the City as a vibrant, inclusive, and world-class cultural destination. The strategy will identify priorities, partnerships, and opportunities to enhance cultural provision and accessibility for all.
They have commissioned Things Made Public to work alongside them on the development of the strategy and are committed to ensuring that the strategy is accessible, relevant, and meaningful for the people who live, work, and spend time in the City.
