St Luke's Community Centre
Description
St Luke's is a welcoming and modern Community Centre in south Islington, run for local residents to contribute to working, playing and learning together for their mutual benefit and well-being. Around 75,000 people visit our Community Centre every year, and for many the services and activities we offer are life-changing.
St Luke's is a local charity, run on donations and grants, for people of all ages and backgrounds. It began in the 1500s as a result of the kindness of a group of local people who set up St Luke's Trust with a number of small donations from each. To this day services and activities are either low cost or free for those taking part. We recognise those individuals and communities in society who suffer the greatest social inequality and exclusion and reach out to them with what's on offer.
We offer assistance and practical support to those looking for a job. We offer companionship and support to those who might be alone in later life. We give kids the chance to try out classes they might not otherwise have access to, giving them skills they can use for life. And much more:
- Over 55s social activities and meals
- Kids clubs
- Cookery classes
- Gardening classes
- Social enterprise café
- Room hire
- Advice and counselling
- Online centre
- Art studios and classes
- Men's shed
- Multi-cultural women's group

Our Area of Benefit
St Luke’s Community Centre can only use its own funds on charitable purposes supporting people living within a defined geographical area (mainly south Islington and a small part of north City of London). We call this our area of benefit.
Residents living outside these boundaries cannot become members of St Luke’s, but can access some of our services. These include our daytime and evening community classes for £5 per session (free for children) and Islington residents aged 55+ are eligible to join our subsidised Lunch Club. Other opportunities, including coach outings, community events and advice services, are also regularly promoted around the community centre and on our website for people living outside our area of benefit.
