Mission
To be a leading team 'not to forget me', beating obstacles by providing physically and mentally stimulating activities, peer support, information & assistance where ever possible, in a warm, safe & welcoming environment.
What we do?
Forget Me Not Memory Café has a unique approach; providing services for people of all ages with no restriction, who have long term/terminal memory issues conditions relating to dementia, Alzheimer, Parkinson, cancer, MS, stroke, diabetes, depression, living alone, brain injury, accidents etc. and their carers . We also run activities on a one to one basis or for small groups at hospitals, shelters or retirement homes.
Our strengths:
• Flexibility. All are welcome regardless of age, illness or disability including carers.
• Participant led activities; we listen to our visitors and provide the services accordingly.
• We assess individual needs of each client. This may result in simultaneous activities such as art, craft, recycling crafts, reminiscence, music, dance, singing, exercise, theater, film, trips, talks, quiz, poetry, nutrition to name but a few.
• We provide opportunities for volunteers, development of valuable skills, training and experiences. Currently Forget Me Not Memory Cafe has 15 volunteers.
• We offer a friendly, welcoming ambience.
• All activities are designed to benefit the clients well being both physical and mental. We focus on clients capability and aim to build on this in order to improve health and well being outcomes. We encourage participation, observation, socialisation and the sharing experiences, information and ideas.
The Forget Me Not Memory Cafe aspires to:
• Improve confidence, motivation, cognitive behaviour
• Enable our visitors to feel supported
• Reduce anxiety, agitation & loneliness
• Above all, feeling happy enough to smile
We provide:
• Where possible, healthy & nutritious snacks and drinks
• Only qualified and experienced practitioners for activities.
• Quarterly reports provided to funders and commissioners.
• Collaboration with other organizations such as Age UK East London, CIty of London, Culture Mile and East London Business Alliance (ELBA).
• Inter-generational work
