Agape Theatre Dramatherapy for Looked After Children

Unlocking the Healing Potential of the Creative Arts

Description

Agape Theatre specialises in providing inspiring theatre arts and dramatherapy to looked-after and adopted children. We engage children through group and/or individual interventions that encourage self-confidence and address trauma through play. Dramatherapy is a unique clinical creative therapy that is a great tool for developing social skills, emotional intelligence and helping children thrive in the world around them. We believe the arts can allow children to express themselves in ways mere words cannot.

Dramatherapy is a unique clinical technique which uses drama and all other creative arts to help children explore psychological, socio-emotional and/or behavioural concerns. It encourages self-awareness that helps clients take positive action toward growth and change. Sessions include a wide range of creative activities such as storytelling, role-play, art, music, and movement. Dramatherapy does not require acting skills or involve performance, but it is an experiential way to explore personal concerns, express emotions and solve problems. Some families have used the ASF (Adoption Support Fund) or other government subsidies to use this service.
