City of London Holiday Activities and Food Programme
The Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme offers free meals, fun activities, and childcare to families who need it most. But what does this mean for you and your family? Here's what you need to know.
What is the HAF programme?
The HAF programme provides free holiday clubs for children during the Easter, summer, and Christmas school holidays. Your child will get a healthy meal and take part in activities like sports, arts and crafts, cooking and more.
Who can access the programme?
The City of London HAF programme is mainly for children from reception to year 6 (aged 4 to 11 years), whose families receive benefits-related free school meals. If your child already gets free school meals at school because of your family's income, they're likely to be eligible for HAF. However, some places can also be offered to other families who would benefit, even if they don't receive free school meals. This might include families facing temporary hardship.
Is it available near me?
Yes. The City of London HAF programme runs from either Portsoken Community Centre or The Aldgate School, dependent on the holiday period.
When does it run?
The programme operates during the three main school holiday periods: Easter, summer, and Christmas. Your child can access up to six weeks of provision across these holidays throughout the year. The exact dates and times vary, so please visit the ‘What’s On’ pages before each holiday period to learn more.
How many days can my child attend?
Your child can attend for four days during Easter and four days during Christmas holidays. For the summer holidays, they can attend for 16 days.
Each session lasts four hours, giving you valuable time while knowing your child is safe, fed, and having fun.
How do I apply?
The first step is to apply for free school meals if you haven't already. Your child's school can help you with this process and will confirm when your free school meals are in place. Once this is sorted, you can then apply for HAF places through the City of London Corporation. Before each holiday period, mailings will be sent out and the programme will be advertised on the website, with a QR code which links directly to the booking system.
Can HAF settings care for my child with special educational needs?
The programme welcomes children with special educational needs and disabilities. We work with providers to make sure activities are accessible and appropriate for all children who want to take part. If your child has additional needs, please advise us when booking.
